Two World Golf Place Saint Augustine, FL 32092 p: 904.940.6100 Website This resort boasts two 18-hole courses: The Slammer & The Squire, and The King & The Bear. The Slammer & The Squire was named after golf legends Sam Snead and Gene Sarazen. The architect's desire for the course to be both fun and challenging was definitely accomplished in his design. The course meanders through the scenic beauty of native flatwoods and hardwood hammocks, while bordering on wetland preserves and wildlife habitat. The greens are very large, undulating and built like "upside-down" table tops, which is reminiscent of vintage greens. A number of fairways are tree lined, however, they are very playable and directed not at punishing beginners, but presenting an interesting challenge for the advanced golfer. Open for play in November 2000, the Nicklaus/Palmer designed King & The Bear course is the latest addition to the World Golf Village in St. Augustine. This 18-hole par 72 course measures 7,279 yards from the back tees. The course blends two distinct styles: the front 9 has a more open “linksy” feel, while the back nine is more traditional and tree lined. |
