Thomson Country Club opened for play on May 30, 1963. The 204 acre tract of land from which it was routed was purchased in 1961 by the Thomson Club celebrating its 50th anniversary of operation. The Thomson Club was a social club for General Electric Engineers. The first 9 holes of the golf course opened in 1963 with the second 9 holes completed a year later in 1964. The golf course has, since its inception, been known for its tight fairways and large tricky greens.
