Twenty-year-old Silo Ridge Country Club is, even by the demanding standards of Hudson Valley golf courses, a spectacular place to play golf. Cut into a hillside in the Valley's northeastern section, it offers views both north and south of wooded, rolling hills, fading from green to soft-edged blues as they roll away.

The golf course is aptly named, for the downslope of the ridgeline above dictates almost every aspect of play. The fairways are wide, thinly treed and minimally bunkered, making it relatively easy to get out of the tee boxes in good shape. Silo Ridge's greatest challenge is its collection of large, well-protected greens. Sure bunker play and sharp putt-reading skills are needed to handle the approach and putting aspects Silo Ridge requires.
