2601 Irving Street Orange, TX 77630 p: 409.886.1779 This is a difficult course for all skill levels. Multiple ponds and Leon Creek have been incorporated into the designs of ten holes. But on several holes, the creek parallels the fairways and only is in play if you slice or hook your shot. The course’s greatest challenges come from its greens, which are very fast and slope from front to rear. There are numerous trees lining the fairways, so errant shots will often result in your next shot being blocked by overhanging limbs. Because of the wind conditions, the most difficult holes come into play on the back nine. This club has two signature holes. The first is #16, a 440-yard, par 4, featuring water halfway down the right side of the fairway, and trees all the way down the left side, plus all shots must be hit directly into the prevailing wind. Furthermore, if your tee shot is too far right, your approach shot will be over water. Because of the length, and the effect of the wind, this hole is the number one handicap hole. While hole #16 is a signature hole because of its difficulty, hole #18 is a signature hole because of its design. From the back tee, this 539-yard, par 5, requires a tee shot up a dogleg left fairway (your target off the tee is the large tree on the right side), then a straight second shot or you will be in the trees on the left, and finally an approach shot to a green protected by sand bunkers on the right and water on the left and in back. The clubhouse, one of the most beautiful you will encounter, is quite large. A tour of the locker rooms will show the extensive use of fine woods used when constructing this fine edifice. Additionally, many lounge areas, plus a barber shop, a bar, a card room, and an exercise facility are also available for the use of members and their guests. |
