8500 River Road Bethesda, MD 20817 p: 301.469.2032 This club features two fabulous eighteen hole courses. These extremely scenic courses played host to the U.S. Open in 1997 and 1964, the U.S. Senior Open in 1995, and the Kemper Open. Both courses feature tree-lined fairways that afford generous landing areas, plus greens that are large and have medium speed. The terrain is rolling, and water hazards come into play on both courses. "GOLF Magazine" ranked the Blue Course 77th in the category of "Top 100 Courses in the U.S." for 1995, 47th for 1995 and 53rd for 1999. "GOLFWEEK" ranked it 69th among "America's 100 Best Classical Courses" for 1997, 40th for 1998 and 38th for 1999. The Blue Course has been redesigned several times over years, most recently by Rees Jones in 1989. Robert Trent Jones added nine new holes on the Blue Course in 1957. The back nine on the Gold Course was designed by George and Tom Fazio in 1977. The entiree Gold Course was redesigned in 2000 by Arthur Hills. Among Hill's changes to the Gold Course were the reconstruction of all tees and bunkers, re-sloping and replanting of the fairways, new cart paths and irrigation system. The Gold Course was also lengthened overall, making it as challenging as The Blue Course. |
