The course features narrow fairways, and many blind shots are required on the back nine. This club hosted the 1940 and 1946 U.S. Opens. This club has also hosted many other major events, including the 1996 Senior U.S. Open. "Golf Digest" rated this 56th best out of "America's 100 Greatest Courses" for 1995-96, and 63rd for 1997-98. The same publication also rated it the 5th "Best in State" course for the years 1995 through 1998. In addition, "GOLF Magazine" ranked it 49th among the "Top 100 Courses in the U.S." for 1995, 57th in 1997 and 58th in 1999. "GOLFWEEK" rated it 48th in the category of "America's 100 Best Classical Courses" for 1997, 72nd for 1998 and 88th for 1999. The ladies' par is actually 75. |
