Overall, water hazards come into play on eleven holes. The club hosted the 1965 U.S. Open and the 1992 PGA Championship. "Golf Digest" rated this 53rd out of "America's 100 Greatest Courses" for 1995-96, and 67th best for 1997-98. They also rated it as the "Best in State" course for the years 1995 through 1998. In addition, "GOLFWEEK" ranked it 69th among "America's 100 Best Modern Courses" for 1997, 65th for 1998 and 56th for 1999.
